The Whirlpool direct drive washers use motors with different speeds. You have a 1 speed, 2 speeds, and 3 speeds motors

Basically they works the same way, except their speed. They all start with the regular speed so that is what we use to check the motors

If the motor won't start, all it does is hum, you will need to remove the cabinet to get to the motor.

After removing the cabinet you will need to remove the pump from the motor. Sometimes items like socks, and other small items of clothing get stuck in the pump and that will prevent the motor from starting.

You will need to bypass the lid switch in order the get the washer to spin with the cabinet removed.

If after bypassing the lid switch and removing the pump, the washer motor runs ok, check for something inside of the pump

If the motor still won't start, check the start capacitor, if still won't start then you will need to check the motor by itself to see if it starts or not

To explain how to test the motor it will take a lot of writing, that is why we have all the information on how to test the motor in video clips that you can download and see in your computer.
