Let me tell you how a lid switch or door
switch as is also called sometimes, works.
This switch is a safety switch that will stop the washer
motor from running any time that the washer door is in
the open position.
It is wired in series
with the motor, meaning that electricity must pass
through the lid switch before it reach the motor.
The switch is turn on when the washer door is close and
turn off when the door is open.
The oldest style lid switches where turn on using a
striker in the door. This plunger push the switch
actuator down when the door is closed
You
could recognize this switch by the hole in the door
opening. Most users use to stick a pencil, pen or a
stick to make it work with the door open
The new style lid switch doesn't use a striker on the
door, so you will not see the hole in the door opening.
This switch uses one of the door hinges to turn the
switch on and off.
On the oldest washers
the washer was able to agitate with the door opened in
other words the switch was only use to stop the motor
from running if the door was open during the spin cycle.
The newer washers use the lid switch to stop the motor
when the door is opened during agitation or spin. |
