| The Basket drive block pictured below, is the part that
couples the spin drum to the brake & drive tube.
This basket drive block is shape like a cone with a slit
along the side. It uses a what is called a spanner nut
to secure the spin drum to the brake & drive tube.
When the clutch turns the brake & drive tube, the spin
basket turn to remove the water from the clothes.
The basket drive block has two cuts and the brake &
drive tube has two tabs. The basket drive block fits
over these tabs to lock it in place.
When
the cuts in the basket drive block wear out ( look at
the picture on the right ) the spin drum is no longer
coupled with brake & drive tube and the washer spin drum
will spin too slow or not spin at all. Also the washer
could make clanking noises.
To replace
the basket drive block you will need to remove the
cabinet, remove the tub cover, remove the spanner nut
using a spanner nut wrench, remove the spin drum and
remove the bad basket drive block.
Reverse the procedure to install a new basket drive
block. |
