| The first thing that you
will need to do when the washer won't start is to
make sure that the washer is connected to the wall
outlet. Then try the
washer in different cycles like the fill, rinse and
spin cycles. If the washer still not starting you
will need to check the following parts.
The wall outlet: You
could use a volt meter to check the voltage at the
outlet, but the easier way to check the outlet is by
connecting a hair dryer that you know for a fact
that works in the outlet.
If the hair dryer works,
then the problem is in the washer. If the hair dryer
doesn't work, then the problem could be a
blown fuse, a tripped circuit breaker or a bad wall
outlet.
If replacing a blown fuse or
resetting a tripped circuit breaker doesn't solve
the problem, you should have a license electrician
take care of the problem.
A problem with the
electricity at the wall outlet could be the reason
why your Whirlpool washer won't start.

The timer push/pull switch:
The timer push/pull switch is activated when you
pull out or push in the timer knob. This switch is
inside of the timer and controls the complete timer.
If this switch is not closing when you pull the
timer knob out, the washer is not going to do
anything at all.
This is the procedure to
check the timer push/pull switch
- Disconnect the washer
from the wall outlet
- Set the timer on the
beginning of a cycle and pull the knob
to turn the timer on
- Open the controls panel
- Set your multimeter on
the lowest scale to read ohms
- Take a reading between
the black wire on the cord connecting block and
the violet wire coming out of the timer or on
the wire harness on the water level switch
-
The reading
should be 0 ohms, if the reading is infinity,
the timer push/pull switch is bad and you will
need to replace the complete timer assembly
A bad timer push/pull switch could be the reason
that your Whirlpool washer won't start.

The power cord: The
washer power cord is the life line to the machine.
The job of the cord is to supply electricity to the
timer from the wall outlet. To check the cord for
continuity make sure to disconnect from the wall
outlet before proceeding.
Take a reading with your
ohms meter between one of the flat terminals
on the cord plug and a terminal on the other end of
the cord. Do this on the three terminal of the cord.
The reading should be 0 ohms
on the three readings, if the reading is infinity in
any of the readings the power cord is bad and you
must replace it.
Well there you have it that
is the way to check your Whirlpool direct drive
washer when the problem is that it will not start in
any of the cycles.
