The Whirlpool 29 inch gas dryer uses an igniter to
ignite the gas coming from the gas valve
This igniter replaces the previous pilot light that use
to be burning all the time in order for the dryer to
ignite the gas from the gas valve By the
dryer having an igniter instead of a pilot light, there
is less emissions and less gas to dry the clothes
This is the way that the gas valve operates.
-
Electricity flows from the wall
outlet to the timer
-
From the timer it flows to the
Hi-limit thermostat
-
From the Hi-limit it flows to the
operating thermostat
-
From the thermostat it flows to the
thermal fuse
-
From the thermal fuse it flows to
the flame sensor
-
From the flame sensor it flows to
the igniter
-
When the igniter glows red hot for a
while it will open the flame sensor, then the
igniter will stop glowing and the gas valve coils
will open the gas vale and the gas will ignite
