The flame sensor looks like a small square black box with two terminals and it is attached to the flame funnel, look at the picture below

This sensor is is use in most gas dryer on the market today. Let me explain how the electricity flows from the wall outlet through the flame sensor

Electricity flows from the wall outlet to the timer, from the timer to the Hi-limit thermostat, from the the Hi-limit thermostat to the operating thermostat, from the operating thermostat to the thermal fuse, from the thermal fuse to the flame sensor, from the flame sensor to the igniter, from the igniter through the gas valve and back to the wall outlet.

The flame sensor has a set of contacts that react to heat and cold temperatures
 

When the sensor contacts are cold they are close completing a circuit to the igniter and the electricity flows to the igniter and the igniter glow red hot

The heat from the igniter heat up the contacts in the flame sensor and the contacts open. When the contacts open the circuit to the igniter is broken and the igniter is turned off.

Then the gas valve opens allowing the gas to flow and the gas is ignited

The heat from the flame will keep the flame sensor off until the dryer reaches the proper temperature inside and the operating thermostat turns the gas valve off

The dryer keeps running and the temperature inside keeps going down until the Whirlpool 29 inch gas dryer flame sensor contacts close and the cycle is repeated
