One of the reasons why your dryer may not be heating, it could be a bad thermostat.

The dryer has three thermostats wired in series in the heating element circuit. Wired in series means that they are wired like a chain, if any of them is bad the heating element will not get hot.

Remember the Christmas tree lights that when one light was bad the rest of the lights didn't work? That is what a series circuit means.
 

The operating thermostat is in charge of controlling the temperature inside of the dryer drum.

The Hi-limit thermostat is a safety device located on the metal casing of the heating element. It is use to open the heating element circuit if the heat is below 300 degrees in the heating element box

The thermal cutoff thermostat is another safety device or switch use to open the heating element circuit if the temperature in the heating element box rises over 325 degrees and the Hi-limit thermostat fails to open at 250 degrees

The thermal cutoff is a not resettable thermostat and when it blows, you will need to replace it with a new one.
